The Importance Of Paper Trading Futures

The obvious reason is so that you learn the basics of trading futures before risking any real money that you would have at risk when trading a live account.

By paper trading futures for the first several months, you learn not only how to trade, but how the markets move and the characteristics of the markets that you are looking to trade.

I remember when I first started trading futures live, the practice that I received from paper trading helped me to understand what markets that I wanted to trade, what were the margins for those particular contracts and most importantly, how was the inherit risk trading that particular contract based on price swings and volatility.

Paper trading also helped me learn the study of commodity chart reading. Years later I realize that it was the study of the art and science of technical trading in futures, as chart reading isn’t an exact science or an end’s to all means when trading futures.

But it helped me to at least recognize various forms of commodity trading setups as it happened and after practice helped me to execute those trades with more confidence over time.

Do yourself a favor and take paper trading futures as a tool and a very important step in your maturation as a futures trading trader.
